A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Alt-N WorldClient 2.1. This issue affects an unknown code of the component WDaemon Web Server. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. The WDaemon web server for WorldClient 2.1 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) attack.
The weakness was released 07/12/2000 by Christer Stafferöd as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared at archives.neohapsis.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2000-0660. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
