A vulnerability has been found in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01/5.5/6.0 (Web Browser) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects the function GetObject of the component Security Check. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-269. Internet Explorer 5.01, 5.5 and 6.0 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via malformed requests to the GetObject function, which bypass some of GetObject s security checks.
The issue has been introduced in 11/08/1999. The weakness was published 01/01/2002 by Georgi Guninski as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is available at archives.neohapsis.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2002-0023. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
