A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01/5.5/6.0 (Web Browser) and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown part of the component Content Header Handler. File Download box in Internet Explorer 5.01, 5.5 and 6.0 allows an attacker to use the Content-Disposition and Content-Type HTML header fields to modify how the name of the file is displayed, which could trick a user into believing that a file is safe to download.
The issue has been introduced in 11/08/1999. The weakness was released 03/08/2002 with Microsoft as MS02-005 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). It is possible to read the advisory at microsoft.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2002-0024. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely.
