A vulnerability was found in NullSoft WinAmp up to 5.13 (Multimedia Player Software). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown functionality of the component m3u Playlist File Name Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Multiple buffer overflows in NullSoft Winamp 5.13 and earlier allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via (1) an m3u file containing a long URL ending in .wma, (2) a pls file containing a File1 field with a long URL ending in .wma, or (3) an m3u file with a long filename, variants of CVE-2005-3188 and CVE-2006-0476.
The bug was discovered 07/21/2005. The weakness was shared 02/16/2006 by Alan McCaig (Sowhat) (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at secway.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2006-0708 since 02/15/2006. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but an exploit is available.
