A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in PHP 4.3/4.3.1/4.3.2 (Programming Language Software). Affected is the function imap_fetch_overview of the file php_imap.c of the component IMAP Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Buffer overflow in the imap_fetch_overview function in the IMAP functionality (php_imap.c) in PHP before 4.3.3 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (segmentation fault) and possibly execute arbitrary code via a long e-mail address in a (1) To or (2) From header.

The bug was discovered 06/12/2003. The weakness was shared 12/31/2003 as Bug 175040 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is available at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2003-1303 since 06/14/2006. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
