Webmin before 1.296 and Usermin before 1.226 do not properly handle a URL with a null ("%00") character, which allows remote attackers to conduct cross-site scripting (XSS), read CGI program source code, list directories, and possibly execute programs.

The weakness was presented 09/01/2006 by Keigo Yamazaki with Little eArth Corporation (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at debian.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2006-4542 since 09/05/2006. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
