Microsoft Outlook 2000, 2002, and 2003 allows user-assisted remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory exhaustion and interrupted mail recovery) via malformed e-mail header information, possibly related to (1) long subject lines or (2) large numbers of recipients in To or CC headers.
The weakness was presented 01/09/2007 by Lurene Grenier with Sourcefire as MS07-003 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared for download at microsoft.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2006-1305 since 03/20/2006. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 23999 (MS07-003: Vulnerabilities in Microsoft Outlook Could Allow Remote Code Execution (925938)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
