Oracle Database 10g uses a NULL pDacl parameter when calling the SetSecurityDescriptorDacl function to create discretionary access control lists (DACLs), which allows local users to gain privileges.
The weakness was disclosed 04/18/2007 by Cesar Cerrudo with Oracle (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at oracle.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2007-1442 since 03/13/2007. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $25k-$100k.
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at oracle.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
