A vulnerability has been found in Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird up to 1.5.0.3 (Web Browser) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown function. EvalInSandbox in Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird before 1.5.0.4 allows remote attackers to gain privileges via javascript that calls the valueOf method on objects that were created outside of the sandbox.

The bug was discovered 06/01/2006. The weakness was shared 06/02/2006 by Mikolaj J. Habryn (moz_bug_r_a4) with Cybozu Labs (Website). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2006-2787 since 06/02/2006. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 22163 (CentOS 4 : seamonkey (CESA-2006:0609)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
