Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird before 1.5.0.4 associates XUL attributes with the wrong URL under certain unspecified circumstances, which might allow remote attackers to bypass restrictions by causing a persisted string to be associated with the wrong URL.
The weakness was published 06/02/2006 by Masatoshi Kimura (moz_bug_r_a4) with Cybozu Labs as MFSA2006-42 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at mozilla.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2006-2775 since 06/02/2006. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 21628 (Mozilla Thunderbird < 1.5.0.4 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
