A vulnerability has been found in Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.8 (Web Browser) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects the function onUnload. Mozilla Firefox before 2.0.0.8, Thunderbird before 2.0.0.8, and SeaMonkey before 1.1.5 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands via a (1) mailto, (2) nntp, (3) news, or (4) snews URI with invalid "%" encoding, related to improper file type handling on Windows XP with Internet Explorer 7 installed, a variant of CVE-2007-3845.
The weakness was released 10/19/2007 by Michal Zalewski with Billy (BK) Rios as MFSA2007-31 as not defined advisory (Website). The advisory is available at mozilla.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2007-4841 since 09/12/2007. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k.
