Oracle Database Server 9.2.0.7 memory corruption ⚔ [Disputed]

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in Oracle Database Server 9.2.0.7 (Database Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown part. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Multiple unspecified vulnerabilities in Oracle Database 9.2.0.7 and 10.1.0.5 have unknown impact and attack vectors related to (1) Export and sys.dbms_logrep_util (DB08), and (2) Oracle Streams and sys.dbms_capture_adm_internal privileges (DB09). NOTE: Oracle has not disputed reliable researcher claims that DB08 is for a buffer overflow in the GET_OBJECT_NAME procedure in the DBMS_LOGREP_UTIL package, and DB09 is for buffer overflows in the CREATE_CAPTURE, ALTER_CAPTURE, and ABORT_TABLE_INSTANTIATION procedures in SYS.DBMS_CAPTURE_ADM_INTERNAL.

The weakness was shared 01/17/2007 by Mark Litchfield (Website). The advisory is shared at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2007-0274 since 01/16/2007. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. A single authentication is necessary for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.

The real existence of this vulnerability is still doubted at the moment. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 56055 (Oracle Database Multiple Vulnerabilities (January 2007 CPU)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Databases.

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (31541), Tenable (56055), SecurityFocus (BID 22083†), OSVDB (32914†) and Secunia (SA23794†). The entries VDB-2839, VDB-2840, VDB-2838 and VDB-2841 are related to this item. If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
