A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Adobe Flash Player up to 9.0.115.0 (Multimedia Player Software). Affected is an unknown functionality of the component JPEG Handler. ActionScript 3 (AS3) in Adobe Flash Player 9.0.47.0, and other versions and other 9.0.124.0 and earlier versions, allows remote attackers to bypass the Security Sandbox Model, obtain sensitive information, and port scan arbitrary hosts via a Flash (SWF) movie that specifies a connection to make, then uses timing discrepancies from the SecurityErrorEvent error to determine whether a port is open or not. NOTE: 9.0.115.0 introduces support for a workaround, but does not fix the vulnerability.

The weakness was disclosed 12/27/2007 by Aaron Portnoy with TippingPoint (Website). The advisory is available at adobe.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2007-4324 since 08/13/2007. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 29785 (SuSE 10 Security Update : flash-player (ZYPP Patch Number 4856)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 115679 (Adobe Flash Player Multiple Vulnerabilities (APSB07-20)).

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at adobe.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published 1 weeks after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
