A vulnerability was found in Adobe Flash Player up to 9.0.115.0 (Multimedia Player Software). It has been classified as critical. This affects the function asfunction: of the component Protocol Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. The bug was discovered 10/17/2007. The weakness was published 12/27/2007 by Rich Cannings with Google Security Team (Website). The advisory is shared at adobe.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2007-5476 since 10/16/2007. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.

Upgrading to version 9.24 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at adobe.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
