Gecko-based browsers, including Mozilla Firefox before 2.0.0.12 and SeaMonkey before 1.1.8, modify the .href property of stylesheet DOM nodes to the final URI of a 302 redirect, which might allow remote attackers to bypass the Same Origin Policy and read sensitive information from the original URL, such as with Single-Signon systems.

The weakness was shared 02/08/2008 by Michal Zalewski with Martijn Wargers as MFSA2008-10 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at mozilla.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2008-0593 since 02/05/2008. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 31622 (openSUSE 10 Security Update : epiphany (epiphany-5102)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 115710 (Mozilla Firefox, Thunderbird, SeaMonkey Multiple Vulnerabilities February 2008 Security Update (MFSA 2008-01 through MFSA 2008-10)).
