The browser engine in Mozilla Firefox before 2.0.0.12, Thunderbird before 2.0.0.12, and SeaMonkey before 1.1.8 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) and possibly trigger memory corruption via vectors related to the (1) nsTableFrame::GetFrameAtOrBefore, (2) nsAccessibilityService::GetAccessible, (3) nsBindingManager::GetNestedInsertionPoint, (4) nsXBLPrototypeBinding::AttributeChanged, (5) nsColumnSetFrame::GetContentInsertionFrame, and (6) nsLineLayout::TrimTrailingWhiteSpaceIn methods, and other vectors.
The bug was discovered 02/07/2008. The weakness was published 02/08/2008 by Martin Straka with Martijn Wargers (Website). The advisory is available at mozilla.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2008-0412 since 01/23/2008. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at mozilla.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published 2 days after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
