A vulnerability was found in Adobe Flash Player up to 9.0.124.0 (Multimedia Player Software). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code of the component HTTP Header Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a access control vulnerability. Adobe Flash Player 9.x up to 9.0.48.0, 8.x up to 8.0.35.0, and 7.x up to 7.0.70.0 does not sufficiently restrict the interpretation and usage of cross-domain policy files, which makes it easier for remote attackers to conduct cross-domain and cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks.
The weakness was shared 04/09/2008 by Toshiharu Sugiyama (JPCERT) with Ernst & Young Advanced Security Center (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at adobe.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2007-6243 since 12/05/2007. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1068 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 800028 , which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 115679 (Adobe Flash Player Multiple Vulnerabilities (APSB07-20)).
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at adobe.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 5846.
