correctly. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:
Mozilla Firefox 1.5.x before 1.5.0.12 and 2.x before 2.0.0.4, and SeaMonkey 1.0.9 and 1.1.2, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service via (1) a large cookie path parameter, which triggers memory consumption, or (2) an internal delimiter within cookie path or name values, which could trigger a misinterpretation of cookie data, aka "Path Abuse in Cookies."
The weakness was presented 05/30/2007 by Nicolas Derouet (moz_bug_r_a4) with Martijn Wargers (Website). The advisory is shared at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2007-1362 since 03/08/2007. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details and a public exploit are known.
The exploit is shared for download at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 67509 (Oracle Linux 4 / 5 : firefox (ELSA-2007-0400)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Oracle Linux Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 156165 (Oracle Enterprise Linux Update for Thunderbird (ELSA-2007-0401)).
