Details
A vulnerability was found in CA Unicenter Network And Systems Management up to 3.0 and classified as very critical. This issue affects an unknown function of the file cam.exe. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-121. A stack-based buffer overflow condition is a condition where the buffer being overwritten is allocated on the stack (i.e., is a local variable or, rarely, a parameter to a function). Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Stack-based buffer overflow in the Message Queuing Server (Cam.exe) in CA (formerly Computer Associates) Message Queuing (CAM / CAFT) software before 1.11 Build 54_4 on Windows and NetWare, as used in CA Advantage Data Transport, eTrust Admin, certain BrightStor products, certain CleverPath products, and certain Unicenter products, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted message to TCP port 3104.
The bug was discovered 07/24/2007. The weakness was presented 07/25/2007 by Paul Mehta (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at iss.net. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2007-0060 since 01/04/2007. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 06/14/2025).
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 25766 (CA Multiple Products Message Queuing Server (Cam.exe) Remote Overflow), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Gain a shell remotely and running in the context r. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 118011 (CA Message Queuing (CAM / CAFT) Arbitrary Code Execution Vulnerability).
Upgrading to version 3.1 eliminates this vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 8983.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (32234), Tenable (25766), SecurityFocus (BID 25051†), OSVDB (38598†) and Secunia (SA26190†). See VDB-38005 for similar entry. Statistical analysis made it clear that VulDB provides the best quality for vulnerability data.
