Multiple vulnerabilities in the Javascript engine in Mozilla Firefox before 2.0.0.8, Thunderbird before 2.0.0.8, and SeaMonkey before 1.1.5 allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via crafted HTML that triggers memory corruption.

The bug was discovered 10/18/2007. The weakness was published 10/21/2007 by Georgi Guninski (moz_bug_r_a4) with Martijn Wargers as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2007-5340 since 10/10/2007. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 2 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 27540 (CentOS 4 / 5 : firefox (CESA-2007:0979)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
