This affects the function mImageBufferSize of the component image/vnd.microsoft.icon Parser. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. Mozilla Firefox 4.x through 9.0, Thunderbird 5.0 through 9.0, and SeaMonkey before 2.7 do not properly initialize data for image/vnd.microsoft.icon images, which allows remote attackers to obtain potentially sensitive information by reading a PNG image that was created through conversion from an ICO image.
The weakness was presented 01/31/2012 as MFSA2012-06 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at mozilla.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2012-0447 since 01/09/2012. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation.
