Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 through 9 does not properly perform copy-and-paste operations, which allows user-assisted remote attackers to read content from a different (1) domain or (2) zone via a crafted web site, aka "Copy and Paste Information Disclosure Vulnerability."
The issue has been introduced in 07/27/2005. The weakness was released 02/14/2012 by Jan Schejbal as MS12-010 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared at technet.microsoft.com. The public release was coordinated with Microsoft. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2012-0010 since 11/09/2011. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 2393 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 57944 (MS12-010: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (2647516)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 100115 (Microsoft Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (MS12-010)).
Applying the patch MS12-010 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
