This issue affects some unknown functionality of the component Dashboard. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. McAfee Email and Web Security (EWS) 5.x before 5.5 Patch 6 and 5.6 before Patch 3, and McAfee Email Gateway (MEG) 7.0 before Patch 1, allows remote authenticated users to obtain the session tokens of arbitrary users by navigating within the Dashboard.

The weakness was presented 03/15/2012 by Ben Williams with NGS Secure Research (Website). The advisory is shared at kc.mcafee.com. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with McAfee. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-4583 since 08/22/2012. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. A simple authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.

It is declared as proof-of-concept.

Upgrading to version 5.5 Patch 6, 5.6 Patch 3, 7.0 Patch 1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
