A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Mozilla Firefox (Web Browser). Affected is the function XMLDocument::load of the component Access Restriction. The XMLDocument::load function in Mozilla Firefox before 3.5.9 and 3.6.x before 3.6.2, Thunderbird before 3.0.4, and SeaMonkey before 2.0.4 does not perform the expected nsIContentPolicy checks during loading of content by XML documents, which allows attackers to bypass intended access restrictions via crafted content.
The weakness was released 04/05/2010 by Wladimir Palant as Bug 490790 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.mozilla.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2010-0182. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 47889 (Debian DSA-2075-1 : xulrunner - several vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Debian Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 118158 (Red Hat Update for Xulrunner Firefox (RHSA-2010:0500, RHSA-2010:0501)).
Upgrading to version 1.0.9 eliminates this vulnerability.
