Unspecified vulnerability in the TrueType font parsing engine in win32k.sys in the kernel-mode drivers in Microsoft Windows XP SP2 and SP3, Windows Server 2003 SP2, Windows Vista SP2, Windows Server 2008 SP2, R2, and R2 SP1, and Windows 7 Gold and SP1 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via crafted font data in a Word document or web page, as exploited in the wild in November 2011 by Duqu, aka "TrueType Font Parsing Vulnerability."

The weakness was presented 10/18/2011 as MS11-087 as confirmed bulletin (Technet) via Microsoft. The advisory is available at technet.microsoft.com. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2011-3402 since 09/09/2011. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD at the moment (estimation calculated on 04/22/2026).
