Mozilla Firefox 3.5.x before 3.5.10 and 3.6.x before 3.6.4, and SeaMonkey before 2.0.5, does not properly handle situations in which both "Content-Disposition: attachment" and "Content-Type: multipart" are present in HTTP headers, which allows remote attackers to conduct cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks via an uploaded HTML document.

The weakness was disclosed 06/24/2010 as Bug 537120 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is available at bugzilla.mozilla.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2010-1197 since 03/30/2010. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059.007 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 47788 (CentOS 3 / 4 : seamonkey (CESA-2010:0499)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CentOS Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 118158 (Red Hat Update for Xulrunner Firefox (RHSA-2010:0500, RHSA-2010:0501)).

Upgrading to version 1.0.9 eliminates this vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 9910.
