Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in blog/index.php in Moodle before 1.8.13 and 1.9.x before 1.9.9 allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via unspecified parameters.
The weakness was disclosed 06/28/2010 by Emmanuel Bouillon (SkOd) (Website). The advisory is shared at vupen.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2010-2229 since 06/09/2010. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 49717 (Debian DSA-2115-1 : moodle - several vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Debian Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 118503 (Fedora Update for Moodle (FEDORA-2010-10291)).
Upgrading to version 1.9.1 eliminates this vulnerability.
