Details
A vulnerability was found in OTRS up to 2.3.2 (Service Management Software). It has been classified as problematic. Affected is an unknown function. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cryptographic issue vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-310. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
The S/MIME feature in Open Ticket Request System (OTRS) before 2.3.4 does not configure the RANDFILE and HOME environment variables for OpenSSL, which might make it easier for remote attackers to decrypt e-mail messages that had lower than intended entropy available for cryptographic operations, related to inability to write to the seeding file.
The weakness was presented 03/18/2011 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at bugs.otrs.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2009-5057. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1600.
Upgrading to version 0.5 eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (66364) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-30800†). See VDB-56872, VDB-56871, VDB-56870 and VDB-56869 for similar entries. Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
