A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Symantec Web Gateway up to 5.0.3.18 (Firewall Software). This affects an unknown code block of the file deptUploads_data.php. The manipulation of the argument groupid with the input value groupid Parameter leads to a sql injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. SQL injection vulnerability in spywall/includes/deptUploads_data.php in Symantec Web Gateway 5.0.3.18 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via the groupid parameter.
The weakness was presented 07/30/2012 by @_Kc57 as 20123 as confirmed exploit (Exploit-DB). The advisory is shared at exploit-db.com. The public release happened without involvement of Symantec. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2012-4178 since 08/07/2012. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation.
