Adobe Reader and Acrobat 9.x before 9.5.2 and 10.x before 10.1.4 on Windows and Mac OS X allow attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption) via unspecified vectors, a different vulnerability than CVE-2012-2051, CVE-2012-4147, CVE-2012-4148, CVE-2012-4149, CVE-2012-4150, CVE-2012-4152, CVE-2012-4153, CVE-2012-4154, CVE-2012-4155, CVE-2012-4156, CVE-2012-4157, CVE-2012-4158, CVE-2012-4159, and CVE-2012-4160.
The weakness was presented 08/14/2012 by Mateusz Jurczyk and Gynvael Coldwind (Adobe) with Google Security Team as APSB12-16 as confirmed bulletin (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at adobe.com. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with Adobe. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-4151 since 08/07/2012. The exploitation is known to be difficult. Access to the local network is required for this attack to succeed. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 61561 (Adobe Acrobat < 10.1.4 / 9.5.2 Multiple Vulnerabilities (APSB12-16)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 120295 (Adobe Reader and Acrobat Multiple Vulnerabilities (APSB12-16)).
Upgrading to version 9.5.2 or 10.1.4 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at get.adobe.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
