A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Moodle up to 2.2.3 (Learning Management Software). This issue affects an unknown functionality in the library lib/filelib.php. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a access control vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-264. Impacted is confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
lib/filelib.php in Moodle 2.1.x before 2.1.7 and 2.2.x before 2.2.4 does not properly restrict file access after a block has been hidden, which allows remote authenticated users to obtain sensitive information by reading a file that is embedded in a block.
The weakness was released 07/23/2012 by Daniel Compton (oss-sec). It is possible to read the advisory at openwall.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-3390 since 06/14/2012. The attack may be initiated remotely. The successful exploitation needs a simple authentication. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1068 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 61385 (Fedora 16 : moodle-2.0.10-1.fc16 (2012-11028)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Fedora Local Security Checks.
Upgrading to version 2.2.3 eliminates this vulnerability.
