libcURL 7.30.0/7.31.0 HTTP Proxy crlf injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in libcURL 7.30.0/7.31.0 (Network Utility Software). Affected by this issue is an unknown functionality of the component HTTP Proxy. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a crlf injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-93. The product uses CRLF (carriage return line feeds) as a special element, e.g. to separate lines or records, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes CRLF sequences from inputs. Impacted is integrity. CVE summarizes:

CRLF injection vulnerability in libcurl 6.0 through 7.x before 7.40.0, when using an HTTP proxy, allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary HTTP headers and conduct HTTP response splitting attacks via CRLF sequences in a URL.

The weakness was shared 01/26/2015 by Andrey Labunets with Facebook as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at curl.haxx.se. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2014-8150 since 10/10/2014. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 80467 (Mandriva Linux Security Advisory : curl (MDVSA-2015:021)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Mandriva Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 43619 (Juniper Junos OS Multiple vulnerabilities in cURL versions (JSA10874)).

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
