Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Foundation Xen 4.4.0 (Virtualization Software). It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is some unknown processing. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. Impacted is confidentiality, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Xen 4.4.x does not properly validate the load address for 64-bit ARM guest kernels, which allows local users to read system memory or cause a denial of service (crash) via a crafted kernel, which triggers a buffer overflow.
The weakness was published 05/19/2014 by Thomas Leonard as XSA-95. as confirmed security advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at xenbits.xen.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2014-3717 since 05/14/2014. The attack needs to be approached locally. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
