Integer overflow in the WebGL subsystem in Mozilla Firefox before 17.0, Firefox ESR 10.x before 10.0.11, Thunderbird before 17.0, Thunderbird ESR 10.x before 10.0.11, and SeaMonkey before 2.14 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (invalid write operation) via crafted data.
The weakness was shared 11/20/2012 by Peter Van der Beken (miaubiz) as mfsa2012-106 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at mozilla.org. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2012-5835 since 11/05/2012. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 63005 (CentOS 5 / 6 : firefox (CESA-2012:1482)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
