Microsoft XML Core Services (aka MSXML) 4.0, 5.0, and 6.0 does not properly parse XML content, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted web page, aka "MSXML XSLT Vulnerability."

The weakness was shared 01/08/2013 by Nicolas Gregoire (iDefense) with VeriSign iDefense Labs as MS13-002 as confirmed bulletin (Website). The advisory is shared at technet.microsoft.com. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2013-0007 since 11/27/2012. The attack can be launched remotely. A single authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059 for this issue.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 63420 (MS13-002: Vulnerabilities in Microsoft XML Core Services Could Allow Remote Code Execution (2756145)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 90852 (Microsoft XML Core Services Remote Code Execution Vulnerability (MS13-002)).

Applying the patch MS13-002 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
