A vulnerability was found in Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007. It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the file /InternalPages/ExecuteTask.aspx. The manipulation of the argument __CALLBACKPARAM with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-79. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 SP1 and R2 allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via crafted input, aka "System Center Operations Manager Web Console XSS Vulnerability," a different vulnerability than CVE-2013-0009.
The weakness was disclosed 01/08/2013 by Andy Yang with BAE Systems Detica as MS13-003 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared for download at technet.microsoft.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-0010 since 11/27/2012. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details and also a private exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.
After 2 months, there has been an exploit disclosed. It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:InternalPages/ExecuteTask.aspx it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 63421 (MS13-003: Vulnerabilities in System Center Operations Manager Could Allow Elevation of Privilege (2748552)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 90855 (Microsoft System Center Operations Manager Elevation of Privilege Vulnerability (MS13-003)).
Applying the patch KB2783850 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
