Microsoft .NET Framework up to 4.5 Code Access Security information disclosure

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Applying a patch is the recommended action to fix this issue.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Microsoft .NET Framework up to 4.5 (Programming Language Software). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects an unknown functionality of the component Code Access Security. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. Impacted is confidentiality, and integrity. The summary by CVE is:

The Windows Forms (aka WinForms) component in Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0 SP3, 1.1 SP1, 2.0 SP2, 3.0 SP2, 4, and 4.5 does not properly initialize memory arrays, which allows remote attackers to obtain sensitive information via (1) a crafted XAML browser application (XBAP) or (2) a crafted .NET Framework application that leverages a pointer to an unmanaged memory location, aka "System Drawing Information Disclosure Vulnerability."

The weakness was presented 01/08/2013 by Jon Erickson (rshaw) with iSIGHT Partners Global Vulnerability Partnership as MS13-004 as confirmed bulletin (Website). The advisory is shared at technet.microsoft.com. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with Microsoft. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-0001 since 11/27/2012. The attack may be initiated remotely. The successful exploitation needs a simple authentication. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 63422 (MS13-004: Vulnerabilities in .NET Framework Could Allow Elevation of Privilege (2769324)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 90857 (Microsoft .NET Framework Elevation of Privilege (MS13-004)).

Applying the patch MS13-004 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at support.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (80868), Tenable (63422), SecurityFocus (BID 57124†), OSVDB (88962†) and Secunia (SA51777†). informationweek.com is providing further details.
