A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Adobe Acrobat Reader up to 10.1.13/11.0.10 (Document Reader Software). Affected is an unknown code block of the component Javascript API. The advisory is shared for download at helpx.adobe.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2015-3073 since 04/09/2015. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. A public exploit has been developed by Reigning Shells and been published 5 months after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 83470 (Adobe Acrobat < 10.1.14 / 11.0.11 Multiple Vulnerabilities (APSB15-10)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 123579 (Adobe Reader and Acrobat Multiple Vulnerabilities (APSB15-10)).
Upgrading to version 10.1.14 or 11.0.11 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at adobe.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 19252.
