A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Adobe Acrobat Reader up to 10.1.13/11.0.10 (Document Reader Software). Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown processing of the component Javascript API. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a access control vulnerability. The weakness was disclosed 05/12/2015 by Simon Zuckerbraun (lokihardt@ASRT) with Zero Day Initiative as APSB15-10 as confirmed advisory (Website) via ZDI (Zero Day Initiative). The advisory is shared at helpx.adobe.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2015-3074 since 04/09/2015. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 83470 (Adobe Acrobat < 10.1.14 / 11.0.11 Multiple Vulnerabilities (APSB15-10)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 123579 (Adobe Reader and Acrobat Multiple Vulnerabilities (APSB15-10)).
Upgrading to version 10.1.14 or 11.0.11 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at adobe.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 19321.
