A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Google Chrome 24.0.1312.71 (Web Browser). This vulnerability affects some unknown processing of the component Media Handler. Race condition in Google Chrome before 25.0.1364.97 on Windows and Linux, and before 25.0.1364.99 on Mac OS X, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service or possibly have unspecified other impact via vectors related to media.
The weakness was shared 02/21/2013 by Andrew Scherkus (Inferno) with Chromium development community as 168570 as confirmed posting (Website). The advisory is shared for download at code.google.com. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-0893 since 01/07/2013. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 64859 (FreeBSD : chromium -- multiple vulnerabilities (dfd92cb2-7d48-11e2-ad48-00262d5ed8ee)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family FreeBSD Local Security Checks. Upgrading to version 25.0.1364.97 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at chrome.google.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
