Details
A vulnerability was found in Apple Watch up to 1.0.2 (Smartwatch Operating System). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown processing of the component CFNetwork. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-74. The product constructs all or part of a command, data structure, or record using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify how it is parsed or interpreted when it is sent to a downstream component. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
The CFNetwork Proxies component in Apple iOS before 9 does not properly handle a Set-Cookie header within a response to an HTTP CONNECT request, which allows remote proxy servers to conduct cookie-injection attacks via a crafted response.
The weakness was released 09/23/2015 by Xiaofeng Zheng (beist) as HT205213 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2015-5841 since 08/06/2015. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1055 according to MITRE ATT&CK. The advisory points out:
An issue existed in the handling of proxy connect responses. This issue was addressed by removing the set-cookie header while parsing the connect response.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 86270 (Mac OS X < 10.11 Multiple Vulnerabilities (GHOST)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
