A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Apple Watch up to 1.0.2 (Smartwatch Operating System). This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the component CoreText. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. CoreText in Apple iOS before 9 and iTunes before 12.3 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption) via a crafted font file.
The weakness was shared 09/23/2015 by John Villamil with Yahoo Pentest Team as HT205213 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at support.apple.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2015-5874 since 08/06/2015. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The advisory points out:
A memory corruption issue existed in the processing of font files. This issue was addressed through improved input validation.
