The weakness was presented 09/23/2015 by Andreas Kurtz (beist) with NESO Security Labs as HT205213 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2015-5898 since 08/06/2015. An attack has to be approached locally. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Cache data was encrypted with a key protected only by the hardware UID. This issue was addressed by encrypting the cache data with a key protected by the hardware UID and the user's passcode.

Upgrading to version 2 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
