A vulnerability was found in Microsoft SharePoint Server 2007 SP3/2010 SP2 (Groupware Software). It has been rated as problematic. The InfoPath Forms Services component in Microsoft SharePoint Server 2007 SP3 and 2010 SP2 misparses DTDs, which allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via an XML document containing an external entity declaration in conjunction with an entity reference, related to an XML External Entity (XXE) issue, aka "Microsoft SharePoint Information Disclosure Vulnerability."
The weakness was released 10/13/2015 as MS15-110 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). It is possible to read the advisory at technet.microsoft.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-2556 since 03/19/2015. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1592 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 86374 (MS15-110: Security Updates for Microsoft Office to Address Remote Code Execution (3089440)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 110260 (Microsoft Office Remote Code Execution Vulnerabilities (MS15-110)).
Applying the patch MS15-110 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
