A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in PCRE up to 8.35 (Programming Tool Software). This affects an unknown code block. PCRE before 8.36 mishandles the /((?(R)a|(?1)))+/ pattern and related patterns with certain recursion, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (segmentation fault) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted regular expression, as demonstrated by a JavaScript RegExp object encountered by Konqueror.
The weakness was released 12/02/2015 by Wen Guanxing with VenusTech (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at jira.mongodb.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2015-2328 since 03/18/2015. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
