A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 SP1 (Groupware Software). Affected is some unknown functionality of the component Input Validator. The manipulation as part of a Eingabe leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Buffer overflow in Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 SP1 and SharePoint Foundation 2010 SP1 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (W3WP process crash and site outage) via a crafted URL, aka "Buffer Overflow Vulnerability."
The weakness was presented 03/12/2013 with Microsoft as MS13-024 as confirmed bulletin (Microsoft Technet). The advisory is shared for download at technet.microsoft.com. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2013-0085 since 11/27/2012. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 65213 (MS13-024: Vulnerabilities in SharePoint Could Allow Elevation of Privilege (2780176)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 110208 (Microsoft SharePoint Privilege Escalation Vulnerability (MS13-024)).
Applying the patch MS13-024 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
