A vulnerability was found in LibTIFF (Image Processing Software) (affected version unknown) and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown functionality of the file tif_luv.c of the component TIFF Image Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. tif_luv.c in libtiff allows attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds write) via an invalid number of samples per pixel in a LogL compressed TIFF image, a different vulnerability than CVE-2015-8782.
The weakness was presented 02/01/2016 by Salvatore Bonaccorso (oss-sec). The advisory is shared at openwall.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-8781 since 01/23/2016. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
