A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in LibTIFF 4.0.6 (Image Processing Software). This affects the function putcontig8bitCIELab of the file tif_getimage.c of the component TIFF Image Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The putcontig8bitCIELab function in tif_getimage.c in LibTIFF 4.0.6 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds read) via a packed TIFF image.
The weakness was disclosed 04/13/2016 by Alibaba (Website). The advisory is shared at openwall.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2015-8683 since 12/24/2015. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
