A vulnerability was found in Graphite 2-1.2.4 and classified as critical. This issue affects the function directrun of the file directmachine.cpp of the component libgraphite. The directrun function in directmachine.cpp in Libgraphite in Graphite 2 1.2.4, as used in Mozilla Firefox before 43.0 and Firefox ESR 38.x before 38.6.1, does not validate a certain skip operation, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code, obtain sensitive information, or cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds read and application crash) via a crafted Graphite smart font.
The weakness was presented 02/13/2016 as MFSA2016-14 as not defined advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at mozilla.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-1521. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
