NOTE: the previous information is from the April 2013 CPU. Oracle has not commented on claims from another vendor that this issue is related to "font processing errors" in the International Components for Unicode (ICU) Layout Engine before 51.2.

This vulnerability is known as CVE-2013-2419 since 03/05/2013. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
A public exploit has been developed by SEC Consult and been published 2 days after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 69742 (Amazon Linux AMI : java-1.7.0-openjdk (ALAS-2013-183)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Amazon Linux Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 185051 (HP-UX Running Java5 Multiple Vulnerabilities (HPSBUX02922)).
